The Garvin County Detention Center was built in 1974. It is run by the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Jim Mullett. Originally built with 52 beds, it was expanded in 1990 to bring the capacity to 72. While renovation of the Detention Center was explored, the current site has no room for expansion.

Despite improvements over the years, the current Detention Center finds itself with many challenges and limitations.

  • Outdated Lock & Key Systems
  • Consistently at Capacity
  • Limited Space for Inmate Segregation
  • Limited Medical Exam and Housing
  • Limited Program Space
  • No Special Needs Housing

After beginning a Feasibility Study in March 2023 to explore the project, Garvin County is bringing a solution to the voters.

The new Garvin County Detention Center would be located on Highway 77. The facility would have 164 beds for General Population Housing, with an additional 17 beds for Special Needs Housing.

This added capacity will allow Garvin County to house detainees from other jurisdictions, bringing revenue into the County that will go towards payment of the facility.
